Interior Design Gone Wrong

Wells & Carter were playing this afternoon - and asked if they could build a fort to put their trains in.

I helped them get all the cushions off the couch in the playroom and left them alone for a few minutes, only to come back to find this:

When I asked why they did it, Wells said, "We were just decorating our fort!"

Celebration & Sadness

It was a bittersweet weekend here.

We celebrated some - GG's birthday...

...and we also celebrated Laurel's baby shower (W & C's very first cousin is almost here:)  :

Aunt Laurel with Charlotte & Liza at her baby shower

But then we were saddened to learn of the passing of our beloved Gummy (Matt's paternal grandmother) at 96.  She was such a special lady, and was so loved by all her grandchildren.

Here are a few (I can't do this justice without a scanner) Gummy memories:

Gummy & Matt at her 90th birthday party in 2005

Gummy & Wells at his baptism in 2008

We're so happy to know Gummy is with God (and her late husband) in heaven now, but she will be missed dearly by so many here on earth.  We were all lucky to know & love her.

Just like Daddy

Someone wants to be just like his daddy:

Off to work...

...and at home, in his favorite weekend hat and reaching for his Bert's Bees.

Oh, and have I mentioned that I think he got his dad's silly gene??  He and his dad came up with this fun dinner-time idea:  let's put together a "snack pack" for Caroline, which consists of sticking a bunch of food (and a stray paci) in the pocket of her dress:

And speaking of Caroline - she may not be just like her dad but sure does have eyes for only him.  Despite spending lots of her time with her mom, the only "words" she constantly babbles are "da-da-da-da-da":

i dig dirt

When Wells was around 18 months old, he was obsessed with a DVD called "i dig dirt."  I will always remember how much he loved this movie - it was filmed circa 1980 and has real life diggers, dump trucks, etc. and features an annoyingly addictive song.  Fortunately, he's moved past his obsession with this particular DVD but he still loves some dirt:

They are installing a sidewalk on our street and Wells is loving the HUGE pile of dirt in our front yard.

And is so excited about the diggers constantly driving by...

...and loves checking out all the construction equipment on our street.  Here he is with the other Pinehurst Place boys watching the cement mixer (moms are loving the free daily entertainment).

Harvey Family Fun

We took a trip to Gastonia to visit with Grandaddy & Kacky.

Wells had so much fun in the pool with Daddy & Granddaddy

He also loves Pluto, the dog (who can actually surf, which Wells finds hilarious)

Showing off his kicking skills

And just two weeks ago, all the Harvey/Wilder siblings were together (which is rare these days with everyone being spread out, jobs, college, etc) .  Wells & Caroline love their aunts & uncles and had so much fun seeing everyone!

Ice Cream Truck

Today the ice cream truck came to our neighborhood!  It drew a LOT of kids to a nearby street.

The van is a little old-school, but the kids didn't care

Yum, yum!

Labor Day Weekend

We started off the weekend in the mountains and logged some pooltime splashing with KeKe & Poppy:

And then back home - Wells got a great surprise from GG - a new bike!

Off to our pool for the Labor Day party - here is Wells on the "Super Splash Down":

And our little lady - spending some time with Mommy & enjoying some squash:

Fun times - we can't believe summer is coming to an end - but are looking forward to school tomorrow!!!

Ready for School!

We are ready for school to be back in session!

Wells is obsessed with his back to school apple shirt.  We also pulled out his bag and made sure he was ready to go (he got a new Lightning McQueen lunchbox this year courtesy of GG).

And we had a popsicle playdate at the playground on Wednesday with all his Christ Church friends.

He loves the tricycles.

Wells has Mrs. Thompson and Mrs. Grubbs (we no longer refer to teachers by first names) and is in the four day 3's.  He has several friends from prior years in his class and had a great time yesterday at the Open House.
